The famous 1st Division of the U.S. Army is the backdrop for this movie which is an episodic retelling of the exploits of this unit during World War II.  Although the  opening scene is a flashback of the central character's participation in World War I, most of the movie follows the exploits of a squad of GIs within the division from their landing in North Africa in 1942 and Sicily in 1943 to their final fighting in  Czechoslovakia in May, 1945.  In essence, this film represents the squad's combat  diary throughout World War II.  Starring Lee Marvin, Mark Hamill and Robert Carradine among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1980.  Runtime 114 minutes.
