The publication, The Blimp Book represents a pictorial review of the four helium non-rigid airships operated by the Goodyear tire and rubber company in the late 1970s.  Blimps differ from the larger, rigid airships of the 1920 and 1930s in that they have no rigid structure other than the gondola car that is attached to the bottom of the helium filled bag.  While the era of the non-rigid airship effectively ended with the tragic demise of the German Hindenburg, which caught fire, crashed and burned at Lakehurst, New Jersey on May 6, 1937, blimps since this time have continued to be operated by various companies around the world.  After the military's use of blimps to protect ship convoys from prowling German U-boats during World War II ended with the war, commercial companies continued to operate them for aerial survey work and marketing campaigns.  The most well known, post World War II operator of blimps has been the Goodyear Company.  They have primarily used their four blimps for marketing having them appear at major sporting events around the world.  Goodyear has even turned their fleet of blimps into nighttime marquees by adding small lights to the sides of their aircraft.  "The Blimp Book" has been written to answer the many questions that always accompany the arrival of a blimp to a major sporting event, as well as, to celebrate the "benign beauty and grace of these delightful machines".  The major sections of "The Blimp Book" are as follows: 1) Chapter 1 - Behold The Blimp!; 2) Chapter 2 - Getting Off The Ground; 3) Chapter 3 - Closeup: How It Works; 4) Chapter 4 - The Road Show; 5) Chapter 5 - America's Sweet-Hearts; 6) Chapter 6 - Sailing Low and 7) Chapter 7 - 44 Questions Most Often Asked About The Blimp.  In addition to an informative narrative, "The Blimp Book" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 21 black and white photographs; 2) About 71 color photographs and 3) 1 color illustration.  "The Blimp Book" will likely appeal to both aviation historians and lighter-than-air aircraft enthusiasts alike.  This book is 96 pages and is in good condition.  The author is George Larson with George Hall and Baron Wolman (photography).  Edition published in 1977.
