The book, The Boys' War - Confederate and Union Soldiers Talk About the Civil War, tells the often overlooked story of how some Confederate and Union soldiers were as young as twelve to fourteen years old when they went off to fight in the Civil War.  Utilizing many first hand accounts, "The Boys' War" follows these boys through the rigors of camp life and formation drilling, right into the carnage and chaos of the battlefield.  While most are aware that the drummers in many Civil War units were young boys, most will be surprised that in many cases these teenagers fought side by side with adults in some of the most horrific battles fought between the North and South during the Civil War.  "The Boys' War" is a thoroughly researched book full of facts and figures.  That said, it provides a very readable account of what this war was like as seen through the eyes of youngest soldiers on either side of this epic struggle in American history.  "The Boys' War" begins with an introduction titled The War Begins.  This introduction provides context for the following chapters: 1) "So I Became a Soldier"; 2) Marching Off to War; 3) "What a Foolish Boy"; 4) Drumbeats and Bullets; 5) A Long and Hungry War; 6) Home Sweet Home; 7) Changes; 8) Prison Bars and the Surgeon's Saw; 9) "Were Going Home".  These chapters are followed by the following four sections: 1) Afterword; 2) Acknowledgements and Sources; 3) Select Bibliography and 4) Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "The Boy's War" includes approximately 50 vintage black and white photographs along with 1 black and white illustration.  This book is 114 pages, is in very good condition and is signed by the author.  The author is Jim Murphy.  Edition published in 1990.
