The moral foundation of a small Texas town is blown apart in this drama about greed and power.  The central character is sheriff Calder who becomes involved in chasing a local bad boy, Bubber Reeves after he escapes from prison.  What soon becomes known to the Sheriff is that oil and cattle baron Val Rogers wants Bubber out of the way to cover up the love affair between his son Jason and Bubber's wife.  When bigotry and booze propel the local citizens into a vigilanti mob, the Sheriff's wife tries to convince him that it is not necessary to bring in Bubber alive.  The Sheriff disagrees and is in a race against time to bring Bubber in alive and to see that justice is served.  The Sheriff will not be stopped until the "shattering" climax where no one will escape untouched.  Starring Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall and Robert Redford among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1966.  Runtime 135 minutes.
