The book, The Discovery Of The Titanic: Exploring the greatest of all lost ships chronicles the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic in the icy waters of the North Atlantic on April 14, 1912, as well as, the later discovery of this famous shipwreck 2 1/2 miles below the surface by an exploration team lead by Dr. Robert Ballard on September 1, 1985.  In the summer of 1986, Dr. Ballard returned to the R.M.S. Titanic and descended 2 1/2 miles in a tiny three-man submarine to explore the ghostly shipwreck.  Actually landing on the remains of the R.M.S. Titanic deck, Dr. Ballard sent the remote submarine Jason Junior down the Grand Staircase to survey the debris unseen for three-quarters of a century.  During eleven separate dives on the shipwreck, Dr. Ballard and his team explored the entire ship including the artifact-strewn debris field and the severed stern section.  "The Discovery Of The Titanic: Exploring the greatest of all lost ships" is the compelling, firsthand account of Dr. Ballard's twelve-year search to find perhaps the most famous shipwreck of all time.  The major sections of "The Discovery Of The Titanic: Exploring the greatest of all lost ships" are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) Chapter 1 - Search For A legend; 3) Chapter 2 - What Happened That Night; 4) Chapter 3 - The Quest Begins; 5) Chapter 4 - Watching From The Sidelines; 6) Chapter 5 - Jason And The Argonauts; 7) Chapter 6 - Discovery; 8) Chapter 7 - Titanic Found; 9) Chapter 8 - Touring The Titanic; 10) Chapter 9 Last Resting Place / R.M.S. Titanic - Then and Now; 11) Chapter 10 - Titanic Reconsidered; 12) Chapter 11 Epilogue; 13) An Inventory Of The Debris Field; 14) A Titanic Chronology; 15) Acknowledgements; 16) Photograph and Illustration Credits and 17) Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "The Discovery Of The Titanic: Exploring the greatest of all lost ships" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 132 black and white photographs; 2) About 260 color photographs; 3) Approximately 15 black and white illustrations; 4) About 13 color illustrations; 5) 3 maps; 6) 1 twenty five inch 'photo-mosaic' of the ship and 7) 1 two-page illustration titled "The Break-Up and the Final Plunge".  This book is 230 pages and is in excellent condition.  The authors are Dr. Robert D. Ballard & Rick Archbold with Walter Lord (introduction) along with Ken Marschall (illustrations).  Edition published in 1987.
