The movie, The FBI Story, centers on a criminal named Jack Graham who plants a bomb on a comercial airplane carrying his mother knowing full well that when it explodes she and many others will be killed.  Graham's motive as is often the case in murder mysteries is to kill his mother so he will be able to collect on her life insurance policy.  There is one thing, however, Graham does not count on and that is the FBI's tenacity in solving cases.  The lead actor plays one of J. Edger Hover's legendary G-men in this muder mystery.  The FBI agent put in charge of solving this case is named Chip Hardesty whose own story covers from 1924 up through the late 1950s.  In his career, Hardesty has had to deal with everything from the Ku Klux Klan to mass murder Graham.  His finest exploits, however, occur earlier in the 1930s when he stares down a gun barrel at Baby Face Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd, Machine Gun Kelly, Ma Barker and John Dillinger.  This movie is based on author Don Whitehead's best selling book titled The FBI Story.  During this film the viewer will visit the then state-of-the-art medical, document and firearms labs.  Also revealed is the FBI's approach to reconstructing a crime scene, as well as, how new recruits are trained to make life or death decisions in firing their weapon as they walk down Hogan's Alley which is a street made-up of fake store fronts where villians pop-out of the windows and doors without warning.  This period movie is definitely worth seeing in you are interested in murder mysteries or the early history of the FBI.  Starring James Stewart, Vera Miles and Murray Hamilton among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1959.  Runtime 149 minutes.
