The movie, The Fountainhead, is based on Ayn Rand's 1943 novel and centers on an architect named Howard Rourk who has a penchant for designing futuristic looking and out-of-the mainstream buildings.  Howard will only design a building for a client if the customer agrees to build it per his plans without modification.  Early on, Howard takes a job in a rock quary rather than compromise his design principles.  Later in the film, he destroys a housing development because the builder has violated its agreement with him to develop the project as he had designed it.  When Howard is caught and brought to trial for his actions he accepts no defense but his own.  The outstanding cast of characters includes the moody Dominique, the power-mad publisher, Gail Wynant, the weak-willed Kent Smith and the vicious architecture critic, Elsworth Toohey.  While this movie invloves love and romance, it is above all a tribute to everyone willing to stand by what's right, no matter what the cost.  Starring Gary Cooper, Patricia Neal and Raymond Massey among others.  Full screen in black and white.  Released in 1949.  Runtime 114 minutes.
