The book, The Grumman Story chronicles the history of Grumman aircraft and spacecraft and of the people who designed, built and flew them in a vivid account of a single company's technological pre-eminence from early bi-planes to supersonic flight and then space travel to the moon and back.  From the beginning, the gifted aeronautical engineer Leroy Grumman and his employees have been pioneers in the field of aviation.  Beginning with a small company with twenty-one employees and no product or plant, Leroy Grumman built his company into an aeronautical powerhouse.  In the 1930's they built the FF-1, then the fastest fighter airplane in the entire aviation world.  During World War II, Grumman contributed immeasurably to the Allied cause by building substantial numbers the famed Wildcat and Hellcat, which were carrier-based fighters capable of taking on the best of the Axis power's aircraft like the infamous Japanese Zero.  While other companies produced fighters for the Allied Navies, the pre-eminent manufacturer in this area during World War II was Grumman Aircraft.  Post World War II Grumman designed many of the leading edge jet powered aircraft culminating in the mid-1970s with the variable wing F-14 Tomcat.  The Grumman Aircraft Company also had a substantial hand in designing and building the Lunar Module used in the famous series of moon landings beginning in 1969 and ending in 1973.  At its heart, "The Grumman Story" is an American story and one laced with achievement of the kind that makes a nation proud.  The major sections of "The Grumman Story" are as follows: 1) Space Saver; 2) Takeoff; 3) Climb; 4) High Blower; 5) Combat; 6) Dive; 7) Supersonic; 8) Over And Under; 9) Up And Out; 10) The Tomcat Caper And Other Addenda; 11) Facts and Figures and 12) Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "The Grumman Story" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 194 black and white photographs; 2) 5 black and white illustrations; 3) 4 maps; 4) Front cover titled Grumman - A Pictorial History and 5) Back cover titled The Pacific Ocean Areas Of United States Naval Operations.  This book is 401 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is Richard Thruelsen.  Edition published in 1976.
