The movie, The Life Of Emile Zola, episodically reviews the career of the man who championed the cause of France's oppressed. Emile's story begins first when he is a hungary, young writer beset by censorship and poverty. Eventually, success finally comes to Emile who becomes the foremost author in France which brings him great wealth. At the height of his prestige and wealth, however, Emile puts aside his comfortable life in order to defend French Army Captain Dreyfus who was falsely convicted of espionage and sent to a jail on a remote island. Emile Zola soon has to defend both himself, as well as, Captain Dreyfus in a French court of law. This movie is very interesting and does depict many events that actually occurred in France during the late 19th century. Starring Paul Muni, Gale Sondergaard and Donald Crisp among others. Full screen in black and white. Released in 1937. Runtime 117 minutes.
