The three decades between 1908 and 1941 produced a vast array of Army airplanes painted in everything from clear dope to the most colorful fighters of the 1930s to the somber camouflage of the prewar era.  The hard to find book, The Official Monogram U.S. Army Air Service & Air Corps Aircraft Color Guide, Vol. 1, 1908 - 1941 covers the U.S.A.A.S. and U.S.A.A.C. aircraft and markings during the period of 1908 thorugh 1941.  Volume 1 is presented in six chapters covering topics such as aircraft color schemes and finishes, camouflage color schemes, the national aircraft insignia, aircraft markings, unit insignia, tactical markings and standard color schemes.  Four appendices cover markings for balloons and airships, Air Service racing airplanes, maintenance and safety markings.  The last appendix is devoted to airplane designation systems employed during this period.  Included in this book are 430 photographs, 47 period color photographs, 96 unit insignia and 44 lacquer paint chips.  This book isan invaluable reforence for both the aviation historian and modeller.  The book is 241 pages and is in like new condition.  The author is Robert D.
