The German's called it Der Gabelschwanz Teuful or fork tailed devil and the Japanese referred to it as two planes with one pilot. Without question, Lockheed's P-38 Lightning was a giant step forward in fighter technology and design. It was faster, bigger and more heavily armed then its contemporaries. It covers all versions from the XP-38 prototype through the P-38 H including the reconnaissance versions F-4, F-5 and F-5A.
