The movie, The Tin Star, is a classic western that centers on a lawman-turned-bounty hunter Morg Hickman and a young inexperienced lawman, Ben Owens. The young lawman is out to prove he's a man who deserves to wear the shiny sheriff's badge. Depsite the pleas of his sweetheart to abandon his hazardous job and the attempts of a, power-seeking gunman named Bogardus to stop him, the Ben refuses to call it quits. The Morg Hickman is drawn into the town's conflicts when he rides in with the body of a dead gunmen in order to collect his reward. Finding that he must wait to be paid, the Morg seeks lodging but quickly finds that the townspeople despise his bounty hunting and refuse him accommodations. The only person who wants to help Morg is a young boy who takes him home to his mother, Nona Mayfield. As Morg and Nona begin to fall in love, he mentors Ben and teaches him how to be the man he wants to be. After the town's beloved doctor is murdered, Ben faces his toughest challenge in bringing the murderer to justice and also preventing Bogardus from lynching the man on the spot. When Morg forces Ben to face this battle alone, the young sheriff outsmarts and outguns Bogardus and finally wins the right to wear his badge.
