The Train is a true story centered on the thwarting of the Nazi's last ditch attempts to steal priceless art from the French Jeu de Paume Museum and take it to Germany by train.  With Allied forces closing in on occupied Paris in August, 1944, Herman Goering  orders Colonel Franz von Waldheim to move the rare paintings and other works of art out of the French museum and move them to Germany.  The museum's curator is  desperate to get the assistance of a french railway inspector to help stop the theft of the  art pieces.  While the railway inspector is initially much more intent on destroying an armoured train, he eventuals agrees to help and thorugh a series of interlocking ruses  convinces the Germans that he is driving the train to Germany when in reality he is  simply taking them in circles around Paris.  Starring Burt Lancaster, Paul Scofield and Michel Simon among others.  Widescreen in black and white.  Released in 1964. Runtime 133 minutes.
