.The film, The Unknown Civil War: Battle Of Antietam, was created by the producers of Civl War Journal and chronicles one of the greatest battles of the Civl War. The Battle of Antietam is known by most historians as the bloodiest day in American History and was a sign of things to come later in the war. This film explores the battle from Confederate General Robert E. Lee's plan of invading the North to win the Civil War in September, 1862 through Lincoln's issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Although this battle was technically a draw, the Union's success at the Battle of Antietam would allow President Abraham Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, a document that not only freed the slaves but ultimately sealed the fate of the Confederate dream. Full screen in color. Released in 1999. Runtime 60 minutes.
