The movie, The Wild Geese, is an action packed story about a British inductrialist, who to protect his own African mining interests, recruits a group of mercenaries to penetrate the jungle wilderness to rescue a deposed political leader awaiting execution at the hands of a rebel general. While the industrialist who is financing the operation cares only about his own business interests which include vast copper mines, others amongst the rescue team grow to admire the deposed political leader and want to make sure they carry him to safety. When the rescue mission is no longer to the industrialists advantage, however, the businessman calls back the rescue aircraft and leaves the mercenary team to figure out how to reach friendly lines. While the movie starts out a little bit slow, about a third of the way through the film, the action becomes nonstop and does not end until the remaining members of the team along with the rescued political leader make their final escape. Starring Richard Burton, Roger Moore and Richard Harris among others. Widescreen in color. Release in 1978. Runtime 130 minutes.
