The book, The Winged Gospel: America’s Romance With Aviation, 1900-1950 reviews the golden era of aviation in the United States, which spanned the first 50 years of the 20th century.  “The Winged Gospel: America’s Romance With Aviation, 1900-1950” reconstructs the United State’s first era of manned flight and highlights the famous and lesser-known aviators who became the nation’s new action heroes.  The cast of heroes includes: 1) Charles Lindbergh, whose solo-flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927 became one of aviation’s crowning achievements during the 1920s; 2) Amelia Earhart one of the many women “aces” who proved that flying was a field open to anyone and 3) Cal Rodgers, who made the first transcontinental flight, surviving in the process a dozen crashes, a broken arm and collarbone, as well as many wounds caused by an exploded engine.
