One of the most notable cartoonists that emerged during World War II was a Staff Sergeant named Bill Mauldin who worked in the Mediterranean Combat Theater and drew cartoons centered on the characters "Willie and Joe".  Soldier humor inevitably accompanies every war and World War II was no exception.  Cartoonists like Bill Mauldin came to the forefront as the men they served with came to see the contradictions of Army ways.  It followed that from the ranks of combat men themselves, the great cartoonists like Bill Mauldin appeared.  In Mauldin's case, he was a staff writer for the 45th Infantry Division and later the Mediterranean edition of the Army  Stars and Stripes publication.  While Mauldin never fought as a line soldier, he came from their ranks and was a champion of the common foot soldier.  During World War II one general was even quoted as saying, "Bill Mauldin is the greatest single morale factor in Italy and France next to food and clothing".  The job of making the fighting men forget the danger and misery of combat life, even if only for a few minutes, and relieving the boredom of existance for base stationed troops was always the goal of Bill Mauldin's cartoons.  To this end, most World War II veterans would likely agree he succeeded.  This book, which represents an important collection of Bill Mualdin's wartime cartoons, is an important piece of Americana and is sure to bring a smile to any veteran soldier who reads it.  This book is 117 pages and is in fair condition.  The author is Bill Mauldin.  Edition published in Italy in 1945.
