The book, This Is War! - A Photo-Narrative Of The Korean War, first published in 1951 was reissued on the fortieth anniversary of the start of the Korean War.  "This Is War! - A Photo-Narrative Of The Korean War" provides a moving narrative that carries the reader from the first day of the Korean War, on June 25, 1950, up to August of 1950 where the picture portion of the story opens.  This book is then divided into three parts titled: 1) The Hill; 2) The City and 3) "Retreat Hell!".  A narrative that makes it possible for the reader to understand the circumstances and setting of every picture precedes each of the outstanding photographs grouped into these three sections.  The author-photographer, an ex United States Marine, was so much a member of each group shown in this book that the fighting men around him were unaware that he was taking their photographs.  In many respects it is remarkable that the author was not a casualty himself given his close proximity to the battles raging around him.  Of note, the individual photographs included in "This Is War! - A Photo-Narrative Of The Korean War" has no picture captions as they themselves tell the story of the courage and grimness, the ordeal and loyalty, of the first-class American fighting men.  The major sections of "This Is War! - A Photo-Narrative Of The Korean War" are as follows: 1) In Explanation; 2) Foreword by Harrison E. Salisbury; 3) Korea 1950 (June through August); 4) Part I - The Hill; 5) Part II - The City and 6) Part III - "Retreat, Hell!".  In addition to the foreword, introduction and the Part I, II & III narratives, "This Is War! - A Photo-Narrative Of The Korean War" contains approximately 112 timeless high-resolution black and white photographs of American fighting men whose faces tell more of a story than any words put to paper.  This book is 229 pages and is in very good condition.  The author & photographer is David Douglas Duncan with Harrison E.
