The movie Titanic was the first in a long line of films focused on this infamous maritime disaster.  "Titanic" represents a gripping re-enactment of the tragic April 1912 sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic in which over 1,500 people lost their lives.  As the story goes, the British luxury liner the R.M.S. Titanic was thought to be unsinkable yet on her maiden voyage to America the ships' captain ignored repeated warnings of icebergs and continued to sail into the night at full speed.  At approximately 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912 the R.M.S. Titanic hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic and 2 hours 40 minutes late sank with a loss of 1,500 passengers and crew.  Though this movie is based on facts culled from eyewitness testimony, fictional characters depict the men and women, a number of them international celebrities, who faced this unexpected tragedy in the bleak waters of the North Atlantic.  While a number of films followed including A Night To Remember (1958), Raise The Titanic (1980) and Titanic (1997) this first film rendition of this maritime disaster is still considered by many to be the best.  Starring Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Wagner among others.  Full screen in black and white.  Release in 1953.  Runtime 97 minutes.
