The Navy's recently retired Grumman F-14A is a modern air-superiority twin engined, two seat jet fighter designed for swift deployment and maximum maneuverability. The F-14 A's performance characteristics are outstanding throughout its full spectrum of speed. Taking advantage of lessons learned from the swing-wing F-111, the F-114 A Tomcat has pivoting wings that can reach a span of 64'-1/1/5 's when fully extended for cruising and can sweep back to 68 degrees for an immediate increase to maximum combat speeed. The F-14 A is armed with four Sparrow and a 20 mm cannon but can be deployed with a wide array of other weapons. Its on-board long range radar can detect and track targets to altitudes of 100,000 feet and to ranges of 100 miles. The F-14 A Tomcat was retired from active service in September, 2006 largely due to its relatively high cost to operate. This older, out-of-production F-14 A Tomcat model includes the following features: 1) Authentic decals for an aircraft operated by the United States Navy; 2) Clear canopy which is hinged to open and close; 3) Detailed cockpit; 4) Movable wings which sweep forward and back; 5) Two crewmen; 6) Display base and 7) Illustrated instructions. The box is in excellent condition. Never opened and factory sealed.
