The movie, Trader Horn, is based on a book by Ethelreda Lewis and takes place in what is today called the Congo in East Africa.  The plot centers on a legendary ivory trader, Alfred Aloysius Horn and his naive protege Peru.  Both men trek through the jungle which is teeming with big game, crocodiles and snakes in order to rescue a beautiful woman who was lost there as a baby and raised by the indigenous tribes.  At the time this ground-breaking film was made, few Americans or Europeans dared venture into the jungles and great savannahs of Africa.  Also of note, the cast and crew hauled 80 tons of equipment through the equatorial jungle in order to make this movie.  They suffered from disease and predators during the one-year it took to shoot "Trader Horn".  Once complete and released for general viewing in America, it was an instant sensation and audiences responded with a sudden, intense interest in Africa.  "Trader Horn" received an Oscar nomination for the 1930/31's "Best Picture".  This video also includes the original theatrical trailer released to movie house around America.  Starring Harry Carey, Edwina Booth and Duncan Renaldo among others.  Full screen in black and white.  Released in 1931.  Runtime 120 minutes.
