The Travalaire Mystery ship was a single seat, single engine, monoplane designed and built in great secrecy by the Travel Air Company in order to compete in the first Thompson Trophy Race held in Cleveland, Ohio in 1929.  This aircraft, powered by a Wright Whirlwind radial engine, completed the 50 mile race with an average speed of 194.90 m.p.h..  Winning this race with the Travelaire Mystery Ship was all the more remarkable because it was effectively the first commercial aircraft to beat, in a race, the finest Army and Navy entrants.  A pacesetter, the Travel-Air broke speed records and set the standard for racing airplane design.  This old, out of production 27 piece Travelaire Mystery Ship model is an accurate, scaled representation of this famous race plane.  Included in this kit are: 1) Movable propeller and 2) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The buyer of this kit will also get the following "spares" from an incomplete second kit: 1) Cowling; 2) Radial Engine; 3) Fuselage; 4) One Wing and 5) Wheel spats.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
