The American M4 Sherman Medium Tank was the primary tank produced by the U.S. for its own use and the use of its Allies during World War II.  In total, over 50,000 units were produced and its chassis served as the platform for other armored vehicles such as tank destroyers, tank retrievers and self-propelled artillery.  The M4 was used by the U.S. Army and Marines until the end of the Korean War but soldiered on with many other nations in both training and combat roles well into the 20th Century. The first M4A1 Sherman Calliope, which is the subject of this model, was developed in 1943.  In addition to the standard 76 mm cannon, the rocket launcher equipped Calliope, designated as the T34, it carried 60 launch tubes on top of the turret, which were designed to fire a barrage of 4.5-inch rockets.  Only a small number of this M4 A1 Sherman variant were produced and these examples were used by various United States armor units during the last two years of World War II.  This older, out-of-production U.S. M4 A1 Sherman Calliope scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a rocket equipped M4 A1 Sherman Calliope as operated by the U.S. Army during World War II; 2) Detailed cannon and rocket launching system; 3) Detailed chassis; 4) Detailed hull; 5) One crew figure; 6) Vinyl tracks and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in like new condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
