During World War II, the United States military turned to the Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle Company to mass-produce military motorcycles.  Many of the Allied powers also turned to these companies for motorcycles as part of America's Lend -Lease program.  As a result of the Allied need for military motorcycles, Harley-Davidson produced the WLA, the U and UA along with the shaft-drive XA.  The Indian Motorcycle Company manufactured the 340-B and 741, as well as, the shaft-drive 841.  While the WLA, U, UA, 340-B and 741 all saw extensive service during the war, the shaft-drive motorcycles of both companies never saw actual combat.  The advent and mass production of the venerable Jeep during World War II signaled the end of the need for motorcycles.  As the roles previously filled by motorcycles were taken over by the Jeep, the remaining "bikes" were relegated to the dustbin of history.  The book, U.S. Military Motorcycles of WW II Walk Around (Color Series) represents an inside and out pictorial review of the American motorcycle models fielded by the Allies during World War II.  The major sections of "U.S. Military Motorcycles of WWII Walk Around (Color Series)" are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) Harley-Davidson WLA; 3) Harley-Davidson XA; 4) Harley-Davidson UA; 5) Harley-Davidson U; 6) Indian 340-B; 7) Indian 841 and 8) Data Tables.  In addition to an informative Introduction and picture captions, "U.S. Military Motorcycles of WWII Walk Around (Color Series)" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 11 black and white photographs; 2) About 209 color photographs; 3) 3 color illustrations and 4) 2 color cover paintings.  This book is 80 pages and is in new condition.  The author is David Doyle with Don Greer (illustrations).  Edition published in 2008.
