The USS Pampanito, a Balao-class fleet submarine, was commissioned in the latter part of 1943 whereupon she immediately went into action in the Pacific Ocean during the height of World War II.  During the USS Pampanito's war patrols, which occurred from early 1944 through mid-1945, she sailed the sea-lanes of the western Pacific Ocean, decimating convoys that were the lifeblood of Imperial Japan's far flung empire.  By the time the USS Pampanito was ordered back to Pearl Harbor in the summer of 1945 for a much needed overhaul she had sunk five enemy ships totaling 27,332 tons.  To many veterans of the USS Pampanito, her proudest day occurred on September 15, 1944 when she managed to rescue 73 Australian and British prisoners of war who had survived the sinking of the enemy cargo ship they were traveling in on their way as slave laborers to the Japanese Home Islands.  The USS Pampanito is a currently a floating museum permanently docked at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf.  The book, USS Pampanito On Deck (Color Series) represents an inside and out pictorial study of this famous American World War II era submarine.  In addition to an informative Introduction and picture captions, "USS Pampanito On Deck (Color Series)" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 13 black and white photographs; 2) About 252 color photographs; 3) 1 three-view USS Pampanito black and white illustration with specifications and 4) 2 color cover paintings.  This book is 80 pages and is in new condition.  The author is Robert C. Stern with Don Greer (colorist) and Matheu Spraggins (illustrations).  Edtion published in 2008.
