The United States Air Force Museum is the oldest and largest museum in the world.  Beginning in 1923 at McCook Field near downtown Dayton, Ohio, it was moved to Wright Field in 1927.  The first purpose built museum building was constructed in 1935 under the Works Progress Administration and the aircraft collection was renamed the Army Aeronautical Museum.  Although the museum was closed during World War II, it was reopened after the war and the general public was permitted access to the facility beginning in 1954.  In 1956, it officially became the Air Force Museum.  Through the efforts of the U.S. Air Force Museum Foundation, the museum was moved to its current location in 1971.  Since that time additional buildings have been constructed and a separate annex added so that most of the museum's aircraft, missiles, space capsules and general displays are now housed inside.  The museum presents the history of the United States Air Force and predecessor organizations by exhibiting them in a chronological manner and associates many artifacts with celebrated events, important eras, notable achievements and technological developments.  This book contains one page reviews of 160 different displays at the Air Force Museum and was current as of the early 1980s.  Each reviewed aircraft, missile or space capsule includes the following: 1) Brief narrative; 2) One vintage black and white photograph; 3) Display item specifications and 4) Display item performance.  This book is sure to be of interest to any "armchair" aviation enthusiast or history buff.  This book is 162 pages and is in very good condition.  No author is given.  Edition published in the early 1980s.
