While perhaps suffering from a shortage of historical accuracy, Wake Island is a true  story of a handful of U.S. Marines and a construction workers bravely attempting to stop  the invasion of a far superior combined Japanese Army and Naval force early in 1942.  With absolutely no chance of receiving reinforements, they struggle to hold the remote  outpost of Wake Island during the period of World War II immediately following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.  This film was one of the first to be made after the attack on Pearl Harbor and was up for three Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Orignal Screenplay. Starring Robert Preston, Brian Donlevy and William Bendix among others.  Fullscreen in black and white.  Released in 1942.  Runtime 88 minutes.
