The Westland Wessex, heavy troop transport helicopter is a British trubine-powered variant of the American Sikorsky S-58 "Choctaw" built under license in England by Westland Aircraft.  It was built primarily for the Royal Navy and later the Royal Air Force.  The Westland Wessex was introduced into service in 1961 and was used continuously until the final units were retired in 2003 by the Royal Air Force.  Over 350 of all variants were produced of this venerable helicopter which carried a crew of two and up to 16 fully equipped troops or 8 stretchers.  The operational characeristics of the Westland Wessex are as follows: 1) Top speed of just over 130 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of almost 500 miles and 3) Service ceiling of 10,000.  This older, Westland Wessex Mk. 1 or Mk. 31 model is molded in medium gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a helicopter operated by the Royal Air Force and Navy; 2) Clear plastic cockpit and fuselage glass areas; 3) Green display base; 4) Rivet detail; 5) Two pilot figures; 6) Paint guide and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The model box is only in fair condition and has sufferred water damage.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
