The movie, When Trumpets Fade, is a gripping World War II drama set amid the carnage and slaughter of the battle of the Hurtgen Forest fought when the Allied armies moved on toward Germany in the fall of 1944.  The movie centers on a Private Manning who is hoping for a Section 8 switch away from the horrors of frontline combat.  When Private Manning becomes the lone survivor of his platoon, however, Captain Pritchett is so impressed he promotes him to the rank of sergeant.  This irritates a fellow sergeant named Talbot who views Manning as nothing but a coward.  Once promoted to sergeant, Maning is put in charge of a group of new recruits including a clumsy soldier named Sanderson just as the Allies prepare to move out and take a well-defended bridge from the Germans.  Starring Frank Whaley, Ron Eldard and Zak Orth among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1998.  Runtime 92 minutes.
