The book, Winning: The Racing Life Of Paul Newman tells the remarkable story of perhaps the best all-time motor sports celebrity driver.  While most know Paul Newman from the many movies he starred in or as the philanthropist who sold salad dressing, many are not quite as aware of the 25 years he spent on the racing circuit.  His role in the 1969 movie Winning fueled an already developing interest in fast cars.  Paul Newman began his racing exploits as just another driver in the amateur ranks of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) but soon transitioned into the professional IMSA and Trans-Am series.  Along the way he won four national championships, scored class wins in both the LeMans & Daytona 24 hour endurance races and won his last race only one year before his death, at age 83, in 2008.  Within the motor sports community, he was simply known as PLN the racecar driver, team owner and diehard fan.  Since the focus of "Winning: The Racing Life Of Paul Newman" was on his racing career, the authors thought it appropriate to draw on the trackside recollections of those who new Paul Newman, the racecar driver.  Contributors include Bob Sharp, Dan Gurney, Bobby Rahal, Tommy Kendall, Patrick Dempsey along with many other fellow drivers, owners, engineers and even a few actors for good measure.  A passionate and dedicated actor, Paul Newman approached auto racing with the same work ethic.  As Paul Newman shunned the celebrity spotlight, he focused his energy on becoming the best racecar driver he could be.  Most will agree that in the end, Paul Newman enjoyed as much satisfaction and success as both a racecar driver and team owner has he did during his many years of acting.  Paul Newman is now gone but his imprint on the world around him will never be forgotten.  The major sections of "Winning: The Racing Life Of Paul Newman" are as follows: 1) Foreword; 2) Introduction; 3) Chapter 1 - Winning; 4) Chapter 2 - PL Newman, Racing Driver; 5) Chapter 3 - 100 Victories And Counting; 6) Chapter 4 - Cars; 7) Chapter 5 - Newman's Own; 8) Coda and 9) Appendices including PLN's Racing Record, Acknowledgments & Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Wining: The Racing Life Of Paul Newman" includes the following: 1) Approximately 37 black and white photographs and 2) About 158 color photographs.  This book is in overall excellent condition but does have a previous owner's salutation on the first page.  The authors are Matt Stone and Preston Lerner with Mario Andretti (foreword).  Edition published in 2009.
