The book, Wirraway And Boomerang Markings represents a concise pictorial review of the Wirraway trainer and Boomerang fighter markings used by squadrons flown by the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) during World War II.  Both the Wirraway and Boomerang were military aircraft manufactured in Australia by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation.  The Wirraway trainer was produced between 1939 and 1945 and was used by the R.A.A.F. as both a trainer and in a makeshift capacity as a light bomber / ground attack aircraft.  Just over 750 Wirraways of all variants were built before production ended and examples were flown until finally retired in 1959.  The two seat Wirraway aircraft carried a crew of two and had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of about 190 mph; 2) Range of just over 700 miles and 3) Service ceiling o 23,000 feet.  It was armed with two .303 machine guns and could carry up to 1,500 pounds of bombs if flown without the second crewmember.  The Boomerang Fighter was produced between 1942 and 1945 and was flown by both Royal Air Force squadrons and R.A.A.F. units.  Approximately 250 Boomerangs of all variants were built before production ceased.  The Boomerang carried one pilot and had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of just over 300 mph; 2) Range of just over 900 miles and 3) Service ceiling of 29,000 feet.  It was armed with two 20 mm cannon and four .303 caliber machineguns.  The major sections of "Wirraway And Boomerang Markings" are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) Description; 3) Early Colour Schemes; 4) Operational History; 5) Later Colour Schemes and 6) R.A.A.F. Comouflage and the Boomerang.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Wirraway And Boomerang Markings" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 47 black and white photographs; 2) 1 two-view illustration of Wirraway GA-F as flown by the R.A.A.F.'s 21 Squadron, Malaya, August 1941; 3) 1 two-view black and white illustration of Wirraway A20-137 of 24 Squadron as flown by Flt.
