The film, Star Trek Memories, is hosted by William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) and includes interviews with all of the key characters from the hit 1960s television science fiction show Star Trek. In this candid film, William Shatner and fellow actors Leonard Nimoy (Spock), DeForest Kelly (Dr. McCoy), James Doohan (Scotty), George Takei (Sulu), Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) and Walter Koenig (Chekov) tell the behind-the-scenes story of this classics sci-fi series. In this film, Shatner for the first time, shares his personal remembrances of the original television series and more broadly the "Star Trek" phenomenon. The viewer of this video will hear the never-before-told stories behind StarTrek including how the fans saved the show for a third and final seaon. Other details such as how Checkov's look was styled after The Monkess' Davy Joins, why the ship's chief engineer was Scottish and the origin of the Vulcan hand salute are revealed to many for the first time. The viewer will also hear how Lt. Uhura was disuaded from leaving Star Trek after the first season by Reverend Martin Luther King who felt she represented a positive role model for the nations' youth. This film also reveals that by the third season, NBC budgeted less than $200,000 per episode which even at that time was relatively small amount of money for a nationally networked show. The film, Star Trek Memories, is highly recommended for anyone who perhaps watched the series as a a child and wondered about the nuances of the show or was turned into a Star Trek fanatic later in adult life.
